Error, After Error

Often, we are in situations where we have to make decisions, no matter how small or insignificant they (those decisions) might seem at the time. In these moments, we tend to make ourselves feel whatever decisions we take are the best for us. Subsequently, these decisions affect the outcome of events after they come into play which in turn informs us of how we've fared.

The truth is that no sane person makes mistakes on purpose. Why? Basically, if you could by chance have the slightest trait of clairvoyance, you'd be able to look into the future and tell whether the decision at hand is good or awful. But since we can’t all realistically be psychic, we have to live with the consequences of our choices and decisions.

Wait, what's a mistake? A mistake is an incorrect, unwise, or unfortunate act or decision caused by bad judgment or a lack of information or care. Clearly, there has to be a decision followed by a series of events before the outcome will reveal that the initial decision taken was a mistake.

As humans, we are naturally wired-up to err. After all, it's written in one of the holy books that "to err is human". What we have to realize is that the most important thing is what or how we react or behave after committing errors.

The first step towards rectifying an error is to acknowledge the mistake. You have to be sincere enough to yourself by accepting, judging by the turn-out of events, that you could have done things better. This is important because it opens up your mind and brings you to terms with the fact that it’s imminent for you to take steps to correct or rectify that error.

Next, is apology. It's important for you to apologize to the person or people who are bearing the brunt of your mistake. So, what if there are no people involved? What about you? You should apologize to yourself because doing that will help you look past the error.

After figuring out what went wrong where, you have to device a means or come up with a plan on how to fix it. This new plan should be as 'error-proof' as possible or at least should make up for the previous errors committed.

The final step is to implement the plan. Do it. Make it work. Because in the end, it's not how we make mistakes, but how we correct them that defines us.

It's Taophieyc!
