We are naturally programmed to think that we have plenty of time to throw away, but the honest truth is that we don’t.
Nature is technically programmed to ensure that time doesn’t stop running, but how much we make of the hours at our disposal is entirely dependent on our consciousness of how necessary it is to sit up and ensure that every minute is spent productively.
This is not to say that rest is prohibited. As a matter of fact, rest is a very important factor if you really want to be productive. But if rest must be taken, it should be a much needed break or holiday. One that is meant to refresh our systems and re-energize us for the next task on the list.
Most of us, however, tend to take long periods of rest even before a task has been accomplished. We want to relax as much as possible, take all the time in the world, thinking that we can always get back to work when it is convenient for us.
Unfortunately, time doesn’t know convenience, and it is also not aware that you are taking breaks. Time ticks on, and it doesn’t take breaks too. Therefore, its necessary for us to acknowledge that we don’t have as much time as we like to think we do, and as such, productivity should be the underlying principle guiding every activity we indulge in.
Except we are taking much needed breaks after tidying up heinous tasks. At which point we know that the breaks are necessary and much needed as they actually help keep us from breaking down in the middle of one task or another.
In a nutshell, time doesn’t stop running. You don’t own it. It is not something you can control. But you can make good use of it.
Ensure that every hour is accounted for at the end of each day. This way, you can look back and say, this is how productive my week has been, or my week wasn’t as productive as I would have expected, so I am probably going to work towards making up for the lost time.
This is how conscious we should be about time. It is the responsibility of every individual to keep proper track of their time and make proper use of it, rather than procrastinate every now and then with the impression that we can always bargain for more time.
Remember, every opportunity comes with time and any opportunity lost can never be regained.
